Kristan Marvell

Kristan Marvell is a sculptor whose work is deeply inspired by the cathedrals of the natural world—mountains, ancient trees, and striking rock formations. His artistic practice combines both deliberate technique and spontaneous gestures, creating sculptures through non-repeatable actions that mirror the unpredictable forces of wind, water, and time that shape our landscapes.

Marvell works primarily with Styrofoam, heated wire, hot wax, and water, carefully manipulating these materials to evoke the organic fluidity and transience of nature. His process balances control with chance, allowing each piece to evolve in response to the materials and environment. The result is a series of sculptures that capture the dynamic and ever-changing qualities of the natural world.

A key element of Marvell's work is the integration of light. By using programmable and projected colored lights, he enhances the textures and subtleties of his sculptures, turning them into immersive, evolving experiences. As the light shifts, so too does the sculpture, offering viewers a fresh perspective and reinforcing the connection between the artwork and the elemental forces of nature.

Through his work, Kristan Marvell invites viewers into a sensory experience that celebrates both the permanence and impermanence of the natural world, where light, form, and time converge to create an ever-changing, living artwork
