MOVEMENT OF METAL

MARCH 20 - MAY 13, 2021

Ian Toynton

Shatto Gallery is pleased to present,Movement of Metal, a solo exhibition of Ian Toynton's recent bronze sculptures encapsulating storytelling through movement.

Ian Toynton had a lifelong interest in sculpture. However, it was his introduction to the French sculptor and philosopher Marc Vinciguerra whose advice and encouragement steered him to developing his own work and becoming a full-time sculptor. In 2015, Ian finally stepped aside from his career as a producer/director in the television industry. For 40 years he has produced, executive produced and directed hundreds of hours of TV drama series, TV movies, and mini-series in England, the USA, and around the world. He has been nominated for a British Academy Awards for the critically acclaimed mini-series "Widows", and an American Television Academy (EMMY) nomination for the equally successful '24'. There is little doubt that his commitment to storytelling and imagery in his TV career has influenced his development as a sculptor.

In this solo exhibition, Movement of Metal, Ian shows a series of his recent works in bronze. His work, 'Dancing Cardinals' is representative of the movement and flow Ian wishes to create in his sculptures. It is that sense of movement that draws the viewer into the sculpture and a story that reflects the behavior of each individual character. A story that dances in the metal.
