What I see and What I know : Danny Lee

Artist Danny Lee's fourth solo exhibition, “What I see and What I know,” presents a body of work inspired by the natural landscapes of California, rendered through a free use of color and brushstroke to express his inner visions. In his artist’s statement, Lee describes the duality between "what I see"—the superficial image of an object—and "what I know," which refers to the artist's personal and conceptual understanding. Danny Lee’s work invites viewers to explore this dialogue between the external world and internal consciousness, engaging with the layers of perception and memory that shape our understanding of reality.

Danny Lee, a graduate of Hongik University’s College of Fine Arts, is a distinguished artist with a notable career marked by numerous accolades, including awards at the National Exhibition of Art, the Grand Prize at the New Art Exhibition, and Special Prizes in Space Printmaking. With a prolific exhibition history, Lee has held three solo exhibitions of painting and printmaking and has participated in over 100 group and collective exhibitions across Korea, the United States, Italy, China, and Japan. Notably, he was featured in a special exhibition of Korean artists at the Venice Biennale in 2024.

Following this exhibition in Los Angeles, Lee will participate in the 2025 LA Art Show at the LA Convention Center and upcoming solo exhibitions are scheduled at Gallery Ruben in Seoul in April and in Suncheon.

The opening of this solo show will take place at Shatto Gallery on February 7, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
